Generation 2 Sneak Peek

Screenshot-458.jpg

*Drum roll please!* The generation 2 heir is………..Ryan!!!! So here’s a sneak peek into his generation 🙂

The bars rang in Ryan’s ears as they clanged shut behind him. Oliver sneered from across the table, “You weren’t in court this morning. You didn’t hear the judge sentence me to 15 freakin’ years in this jail, man. When you really know that the only reason I’m in here is because of you!”

Ryan’s eyes widened in anger as his voice grew low and threatening, “You shut your damn mouth, Oliver. You were the one who sold the tainted meth. You were the one who gave it to those teens from around the block. You may as well have shot them in the head, because it’s your fault that they died! You’re lucky to have only been sentenced to 15 years. So how can you possibly blame this entire freakin’ mess on me?”

Screenshot-453Just as Ryan was about to walk out, Oliver’s low whisper met his ears, “I know it was you.”

Almost against his will, Ryan answered, “What the hell are you talking about, man?”

“I know it was you who told the cops where my stash house was. You told them where I was hiding out, and you gave up my crew. You’d better watch out.”

Ryan sneered, “Is that a threat?”

Oliver’s eyes grew more serious than angry, “No, Ry, it’s a warning to be careful. Just because you’re my brother, doesn’t mean they won’t get revenge.”

Ryan sighed heavily, “You’re right, Oliver. I did tell them, but only because the police threatened to come after Mom and Dad, Cassidy and Chris,….everyone. I couldn’t let them drag our name through the mud. I’m sorry.”

Oliver had a single tear run down his face, “Ryan, we’re good. I’m sorry that you had to get mixed up in all of this.”

Ryan smiled slightly, “You keep your head straight in here, bro. I can take care of myself.”

Screenshot-454The brothers shared a look that spoke volumes and yet nothing at all. Finally, Oliver broke the silence, “I know I’m in no place to ask for any favors, but I have something to tell you.” He waited for Ryan to nod before continuing, “Last year, before we turned 23, I hooked up with this strung out junkie, who couldn’t afford my price. She offered, uh, other types of goods,”

Ryan cleared his throat uncomfortably, “Move on, bro.”

“Anyways, about 2 months ago, this girl shows up, in tears, with a baby on her hip. She said it’s mine, and to be honest, the baby had my eyes.”

“Dude, you have a baby?! Mom’s gonna flip!”

“I know, I know, man, but if it’s mine, I’m not going to see the kid for 15 years. So here’s where my favor comes in; would you mind checking in on the kid for me every once in a while?”

Ryan shook his head before he heard himself agreeing, “Sure. I’ll check in every now and then. Do you even know this chick’s name?”

Oliver smiled, “Talia something or other, lives on the edge of Bridgeport with her brother, Rafe.”

“Dude! You slept with Rafe’s sister?! He’s the one with the most to lose now that you’re in jail.”

Screenshot-459When Ryan trudged in the front door that night, brushing the snow off of his shoulders. He tossed a freezer meal into the microwave, plopping heavily down in his chair. He put his head in his hands, trying to get the image of some helpless baby out there growing up in the slums of Bridgeport. When Ryan climbed into bed that night, he vowed to track down that kid and make sure he was being cared for.

~Sabrina’s P.O.V.~

Screenshot-389Two weeks after Justin came home, I was in the middle of making lunch for all of us, when my stomach grew tight and an intense pain traveled down my back. It took me by such surprise that I dropped the plate I was holding, and I doubled over. I called out to Justin, but the pain had passed before he got to the kitchen. I thought nothing of it, passing it off as a Braxton-Hicks, until another one took me by surprise 10 minutes later. Justin wheeled over to me, grabbing my shoulders as I breathed through the pain. I panted for a minute before burying my face in his shoulder, ”I think this is the real deal, Justin.”

He rubbed my back, “Okay, well you can’t drive in this condition, and I’m still stuck in this damn chair, so I’ll go call your mom while you put your feet up on the couch.”

I waddled to the couch, trying to keep the tears at bay. I was barely seven months pregnant, I couldn’t imagine losing the babies now. Justin came into the living room, “Your mom is leaving the house as we speak, so she should be here in 10 minutes or so. I was more than ready to leave when my mom came, having gone through another contraction on the couch.

Screenshot-393By the time we got there, two more contractions had worked their way through my body. It was my lucky day that Dr. Sinclair was working the delivery ward. He hooked me up to a CTG belt to monitor the babies’ heartrates and the intensity of my contractions. After three more contractions, he came back in and asked some questions, “Sabrina, you are 30 weeks along, correct?” I nodded through a contraction, and he continued, “Your contractions are 10 minutes apart, lasting a few seconds?”

“Yes, they’re between 10 and 12 minutes.”

He nodded, before saying, “The babies are trying to come out a little early, if you hadn’t guessed.  Since your water hasn’t broken, I’m ordering you on strict bedrest. I’ll give you something today to slow down your labor, but until the babies reach at least 36 weeks, I want you off your feet unless it’s for a bathroom break, or a sponge bath. Absolutely no stairs, or strenuous lifting, like a toddler.”

My lip quivered, “Are the babies okay?”

He smiled kindly, “Right now, they’re perfectly healthy. We want them to keep baking for a little bit longer.”

Screenshot-411I took a deep breath, trying to take it all in, but I was grateful to him. After he left, my mom moved her chair closer to my bed, “How are you feeling, sweetie?”

I nodded tiredly, exhaustion bringing tears to my eyes, “I’m trying not to stress out, but between Justin being out of work for who knows how long, and now this. I don’t know how we’ll pay for everything. We have his hospital bills and my hospital bills, and then there’s the housework and the boxes…I can’t put that all on Cassidy, and Justin is not strong enough yet…” my voice trailed off as I began sobbing.

My mom wrapped her arms around me, “Oh, sweet girl, it’ll be okay. I know this isn’t ideal, but you guys can do this, okay? Your father and I were going to surprise you once the twins are born, but now seems as good a time as ever.” I moved further away from her so I could see her face, and she continued, “When your father and I lost you, it was one of the darkest times in our life. Despite what the detectives told us, we knew you were out there somewhere, so we set up a trust fund for you. On your birthday every year, we would deposit 1000 dollars until you turned 18. It’s been about 5 years since we last checked your account but with interest rates, you should have well over 50,000 dollars.”

Screenshot-410.jpgI gasped, “Obviously, I’ll have to talk to Justin about it, but I can’t think of a reason that he’d turn it down. That’s very generous of you.” My mother nodded and I threw my arms around her, sobs of relief shaking us both. I pulled away and kissed her on the cheek. She rubbed my back as another contraction gripped my body. The medicine was beginning to work, the contraction over as quick as it started.  When she left to grab us some lunch from the cafeteria, I called Justin to tell him the news.

He answered on the first ring, “Hey, is everything okay?”

I nodded, “Yeah. I was going into premature labor, but they gave me some medicine to stop the contractions. I do have some bad news, though. I’ll be on bedrest for the next six weeks or so.”

He groaned sympathetically, “Aww, honey,  I’m sorry. I know you were hoping that we could avoid bedrest.”

We talked for a few more minutes, until my mom came back with lunch. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until the smell of mashed potatoes hit my nose. After dinner, my mom left, promising to come first thing in the morning to bring me home.

Screenshot-400Three days into the mandatory bedrest, and I was already going insane. Ethan and my father had moved Justin and I’s bed downstairs, so I wasn’t completely isolated, but I was going stir crazy. I had five and a half weeks left, and even then, I had to take it easy. Justin shuffled slowly over to the bed, “You have never looked more beautiful, Sabrina.” I froze, my spoonful of chocolate pudding dangling from my mouth, before rolling my eyes. He climbed into bed next to me, “No, I’m serious, you may not feel it, but you’re stunning. I can show you how I feel if it’ll convince you.” I set my bowl aside, giggling as he nuzzled my neck. He gently rolled on top of me, kissing me with a passion I hadn’t seen in a long time. Esther’s cry from her bedroom quickly shut down our little makeout session. I sighed and laid back while Justin went to go get her. Wondering when my life would feel “normal” again.

Screenshot-401Things were easygoing for the next month or so. Justin continued to get stronger, finally getting rid of his wheelchair while I remained in bed, missing out on all of Esther’s newest milestones. I’m embarrassed to say that I was growing quite irritable. Cassidy came down stairs in the middle of the night, waking up Justin and I, “Daddy, Mama, can I sleep with you? I had a bad dream.” Justin patted the space between us, while I moved over a little. Soon, you could hear her soft snores. I had just managed to fall back asleep when Esther’s cries could be heard down the hall. I groaned, and struggled to sit up, my ever-growing stomach making it near impossible. As I stood up, Justin waved me back into bed, “Sabrina, please lay down, you’re not supposed to walk, let alone carry Esther.” I growled in frustration, “I know that, Justin! I think after almost an entire month of laying down, I understand this! I just want to be able to go comfort my daughter.” I sat back down in a huff, while Justin went to go get Esther. I heard Cassidy toss and turn a little before she asked, “Mama, is everything okay?” I snapped at her, “Go back to sleep!” Realizing I had just yelled at her, I also laid my head down, turning my back to my family and crying quietly into my pillow.

Screenshot-403In the morning, I woke and saw a card next to the bed.

I know you’re getting sick of being stuck at home. If you take the wheelchair outside, a surprise is in store. Don’t worry about us., I’m taking the girls to the park and then a movie, so the house is all yours for a few hours. We love you, grumpy and all…

Justin

I grabbed my slippers, and sat in the wheelchair. Rolling onto the patio, I saw that Justin had set up a cushioned picnic area just for me. It had a stack of books, lots of food, and it was right next to the pool. I settled myself down among the massive pillows, trying to get comfortable. I picked one of the books up, grabbed a handful of grapes, and slowly began to relax.

Screenshot-404.jpgThe day passed by quickly, and by the time Justin and the kids got home, I was deep into an FBI thriller. The girls swarmed me with hugs and kisses, nearly tackling me. I laughed at their excitement, “Careful, don’t knock me over. How was the movie?”

Esther held my face in both her little hands, “Fish are friends, not food.” I snorted with laughter, waiting for Cassidy to explain.

I tickled them both until their faces turned red, before asking Cassidy, “What about, babydoll, did you like the movie?”

She nodded, seeming to be very cautious of what she says. I grabbed her hand and placed it on my belly before saying, “Sweetheart, I am so proud of you, Cass. I know I haven’t been the nicest mommy lately, and I’m sorry if I’ve been angry these last couple days.”

She placed a kiss on my stomach, “It’s okay, Mama. Daddy says growing babies is hard work.”

I laughed and snuggled her close, “That’s right, but that’s no excuse for being cranky. C’mon, let’s see if these babies will put on a show for us today, okay? I pulled up my shirt and poked at my belly, Soon enough, one them kicked real hard. I was stretched thin enough that you could see all their movements nowadays. It was more fun for me to watch Cassidy’s face as she felt them move and tried to figure out if was an arm, or a leg, and a butt or a head.

Screenshot-409.jpgJustin joined me on the blanket after a while, kissing my belly. I laid my head on his shoulder, “I’m sorry, baby. I shouldn’t have yelled at you this morning.

He kissed my forehead as we watched the sunset, “You have nothing to apologize for, honey. We will get through this together.”

As Cassidy led Esther around the yard, I turned to Justin and whispered, “I’m so sick of being pregnant, Justin. My body cannot possibly stretch anymore, and I’m so tired all the time, but I do nothing all day! I just want these babies out of me.” I clutched his shirt and sobbed quietly, so as not to alert the girls. He held me tight until my tears subsided. He kissed my cheek, “Feel better?” I nodded quietly, letting him rub my back.

He placed a kiss on my temple, “Have I thanked you lately?”

I looked at him quizzically, “Thanked me…for what? I’m a beached whale taking up space in our living room.”

He laughed, “No, seriously, Sabrina. You’re doing the most amazing job ever. You get to grow not one but two human beings inside of you. And this job you’re doing, is almost done, and then we’ll have two beautiful babies to look after.”

I laid my head on his chest, and sighed deeply, “Have we decided on names?”

The rest of the weekend flew by. The girls made a fort around my bed and we watched movies in it all day long. I tried to relax and enjoy the time I had with the girls before life grew even crazier.

1.17 Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

~A.N- I was bitten by the inspiration fairy this week, hence the extra chapter, but I thought I would warn you that there is some adult content at the end of this chapter. If you’re uncomfortable reading it, just stop reading there and patiently wait for the next chapter. I wrote it so that there was nothing critical that you’d miss. So, enjoy! And please let me know what you think!~

Screenshot-348In the blink of an eye, it was time to celebrate Esther’s birthday. I admit, I went a little wild with the decorations, but we had fun. It was a small party, my parents, Ethan and Julia, and Justin and Cassidy.  Julia came up to me, Esther on her hip, “Can you believe that she’s one? It went by so fast!” I laughed, “I know. She’s so big now. She looks a lot like you, Jules.” Julia blushed, before throwing her arms around me. I hugged her back, “What’s this for, Julia?” She put her hands on my shoulders, “It’s for being the mother to Esther that I couldn’t be. You don’t know how happy it makes me to be able to see her with you.” We were both crying by the time she finished, but we were soon in a fit of giggles as Ethan was up to his antics trying to make Esther smile (which wasn’t hard). True to his word, he was the best uncle that little girl would ever have.

Screenshot-347Before I was ready, it was time to blow out the candles. I let Julia hold Esther as we sang, her eyes aglow with the candles. She clapped her hands, and I blew out the candles for her. I placed her on the floor and we all watched as the birthday sparkles surrounded Esther. She looked scared for a moment, but then she was suddenly the cutest and most beautiful little girl that I had ever seen.  She cooed and clapped her hands, reaching up for me. I scooped her into my arms, tears running down my cheeks. Esther clumsily wiped my cheeks for me until we both were giggling.

Justin moved closer to us, “You’re such a big girl now, Esther. So beautiful!” She wiggled until I set her on the ground, making a beeline straight for Cassidy. Justin whispered in my ear, “We make such a good family, Sabrina.” I nodded softly, setting my head on his shoulder. I caught my mother’s eye as she walked around the room, cleaning up the cake plates. She winked at me before giving me a thumbs up. I muffled a giggle into Justin’s shoulder until Esther pulled on my leg, wanting to be held. Justin beat me to the punch, scooping her into his bear-like arms. Esther stuck her thumb in her mouth and began to grow sleepy eyed.

Screenshot-354Pretty quickly, the party died down after Esther went down for her nap. Justin kissed me on the cheek, promising to call later. My parents were the next to leave, my father growing teary, “Sabrina, you’re doing a fantastic job with that little girl. I couldn’t be prouder of you.” I hugged him tightly, willing myself not to cry, “Thanks, Dad.” Julia left not long after my parents, promising to call as soon as she was settled at the university. I plopped down on the couch, kicking off my shoes, “Ethan, can you bring me one of the sodas we have leftover?” He sauntered out of the kitchen, soda in hand, making himself comfy next to me on the couch.

Screenshot-355After flipping through the channels aimlessly, I finally confronted him, “What’s eating at you, Ethan?” He sighed deeply, “I just can’t believe that’s it been an entire year, y’know. Everything is changing so fast! You’re a mom, Julia’s going off to college, and I don’t know…it’s just weird.” I laughed softly, “Change is a good thing, Bud. You’ve grown up and matured in ways you probably never thought possible. I mean in just a few weeks, you’ll be shipping out to boot camp for the army.” He nodded, “I guess so, but am I making the right choice? I mean, if anything ever happened to me, I’d want Esther to know the truth about Julia and I.”

“Oh, of course, Ethan. We’ve been planning on telling her on her 6th or 7th birthday, when she’ll be old enough to process it all.”

He wiggled his eyebrows, “We?”

I blushed furiously, “Oh…uh, I meant Justin and I.”

“So things are pretty serious with you two, huh?”

“Yeah, we’re taking it slow, but I think he’ll be a big part of Esther’s life.”

Screenshot-352Ethan stayed for the remainder of the afternoon, playing with Esther once she woke up. After he left, I snuggled my big girl close, trying to decide what we were going to have for dinner. My cell began to ring, interrupting any thoughts of food. I answered it happily when I saw that it was Justin,

“Hey, honey. What’s up?”

I could hear the smile in his voice as he answered, “You, me, Danzi’s Bistro tomorrow at 7?”

“Ooh, that sounds fun. Who’s going to watch the girls?”

“I have a sitter for Cass, who would do great with Esther, or your parents offered to take her.”

“Sounds like a pln. I’ll bring Esther with me to your house and then we can go from there.”

“Great. Sounds like a plan. See you tomorrow, Sabrina.”

The next day, I could barely concentrate at work, I was so excited for our date. It had been weeks since we’d had a night to ourselves. BY the time I left the office, Picked up Esther from daycare, ad got home, it was nearly time to leave. In record time, I had both of us out the door, filled to the brim with anything that Esther might need. Justin met me at the door, “Whoa, are you moving in?”

“Har har…very funny. A little help please?” He took the overloaded diaper bag from my hand, before pulling me into his arms. I kissed him fervently, before scooping up Esther for a goodbye kiss. She cried a little as we left, but the babysitter assured me she would call if she needed to.

Screenshot-357Once we got to the restaurant, we were seated outside almost right away. Justin held my hand across the table, an unreadable expression in his eyes. We talked about everything under the sun, the girls, his job, my job, family. When we had finished our food, he cleared his throat nervously before standing. I started to stand up too, but he motioned for me to stay seated. He walked around the table until he was standing before me. Justin knelt on the ground, tears in his eyes, and grabbed my hands, “Sabrina Quinn, love of my life, I can’t imagine my life without you. You make my heart skip a beat every time you  dazzle me with that gorgeous smile of yours. If you’ll have me, I’d like to spend the rest of my life with you. Sabrina, will you marry me?”

Tears flooded my cheeks as I nodded fervently. I wrapped my arms around him, kissing him all over. The rush of applause from the rest of the dining crowd brought me back to the present. I had been completely unaware of our surroundings. He slipped the ring onto my finger, a smile never leaving our faces.

Screenshot-340We were both floating on a cloud as we walked up the front steps into his house. Lisa, the babysitter, assured us that all had gone well. Cassidy was asleep upstairs and Esther was sleeping in her porta crib in the laundry room. Justin walked Lisa out to her car before coming back inside. He pulled me into his lap and I snuggled close, admiring my ring, “I hate to wake Esther, but we should probably get going if I want to get a decent amount of sleep.” He nuzzled my neck, “You know, you’re welcome to stay the night, Sabrina.” I sat back and thought about it. Before I could answer he kissed my forehead, “There are no assumptions, Sabrina. You can go straight to bed, we can cuddle, or it could lead to more. We’ll take it as slow as you want.”

I nodded timidly, before kissing him passionately. I whispered in his ear, “I haven’t slept with anyone since before I found out I was pregnant with Christopher. I want you, believe me, I want you, but I’m nervous.”

He took my hand and led me up the stairs, sitting both of us down on the bed, “Okay, I’ll lay back here, and you’ll lead. Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it. If we end up doing nothing you’but cuddling, I’m not going to be upset. I’m just happy to get to have a sleepover with you.”

******A.N: This next section is my attempt at writing a sex scene, feel free to skip this section and move on to the next chapter if this isn’t something that you’re comfortable reading.******

Screenshot-341I stepped up to the edge of the bed, beginning to undress slowly, watching as Justin followed suit. I lay next to him in the bed, putting his hands on my waist as I traced a finger down his chest. He growled softly as my hands went lower, his hands never leaving my waist. My kisses trailed from his check to his neck as he nibbled on my ears.

Screenshot-343Slowly, I rolled him over until he was on top of me before I whispered, “I’m yours.” I moved my hands and accepted the length of him inside me. I moaned softly as he rocked back and forth, sending tingles throughout my body. His breath was hot on my neck as he kissed me over and over.

Screenshot-346My head was spinning, while my hands held on to his back muscles. He panted my name as he arched his back, nearly knocking us both out of bed. I clung tight to his back, scraping him gently. I bit my lip to keep quiet as my body abandoned all direction, swelling with pleasure and emotion.

Screenshot-342Justin’s lips tickled my breasts as he kissed them. He lay his head against my chest, our hearts beating in sync. I wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead as he finished, rocking slower and slower, until we just lay there, holding each other. He laid his head against mine, our fingers intertwined, until I heard his breathing grow deeper and steadier. I fell asleep in the arms of the man I loved, my soon to be husband. Life couldn’t get any sweeter

1.16 Soul Searching

Gen1 Cover~Sabrina’s P.O.V.~

Screenshot-320.jpgA knock on the door startled me awake from my nap. I sprung up, disoriented, “Just a minute, ” I called out. I brushed a hand through my tangled hair before opening the door. To my surprise, it was Justin, flowers in hand. He cracked a smile, at me, “Hey, Sabs, I’m sorry to just drop by, but uh, Cassidy’s away at camp for the summer and I thought you might want some help with the baby.” I sighed in relief, “That’s really sweet of you. Please, come in.”

I led him into the living room, Esther was sitting in her swing. I turned to him, “This might seem terribly rude, but would you mind sitting with her while I take a shower? I hate to admit it, but it’s been a few days.” Justin laughed it off, before shooing me into the bathroom. It felt so good to shower. I had barely slept in the last few weeks since Esther had been home, but it had been even harder to find time to shower.  As I stepped out of the shower, the smell of something savory filled my nose. Upon entering the kitchen area, there stood Justin, Esther on his shoulder, flipping pancakes.

“Wow, Justin, thank you. This really means a lot.”

He shrugged, “I know how hard it was for my wife and I when Cassidy was first born. I know it’s gotta be ten times harder doing it on your own.”

I nodded wearily, taking Esther from his arms, “Yeah. It’s rough, but she’s worth it.”

Screenshot-329.jpgWe sat down to eat, Esther snoozing away in the swing. Justin cleared his throat, obviously uncomfortable, “So…um…how did things work out with Raj?”

I nodded before reassuring him, “Oh, I haven’t heard from him recently, but he moved to Bridgeport a few months back.” I smiled softly, “I don’t blame you, Justin. I would’ve done the same thing in your position.”

“Good, because lately, I’ve felt like it was the worst decision of my life, walking away from you.”

There was a comfortable lull as we finished eating, and before we could finish talking again, Esther made her presence known by crying. I cooed to her, “Oh, sweet-pea, are you hungry again? Let’s get you something to eat.” I scooped her up while Justin made up a bottle. We sat down on the couch, and I couldn’t stop staring at her. Justin was the first to speak, “She’s precious, Sabrina.” I leaned my head on his shoulder, “I like having you here, Justin Welsh.” He smiled, “I like being here, Sabrina Quinn.” He put his finger under my chin and turned my head, until I was face to face with him. Justin leaned in and kissed me softly, taking my breath away.

Screenshot-323When he pulled away, tears fell down my face, but Justin wiped them away with his thumb, “I’m sorry, Sabrina. I guess I misread the moment.” I shook my head vehemently, “No. No. No. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I’ve just missed you so much, and I’m scared of losing you again.”

He took Esther from my arms, “I’m not going to lie, Sabrina, watching you walk away tore my heart in half but I still stand by the decision I made then, because I had to protect Cassidy, just as you have Esther to protect now. However, if you’ll have me, I’d like to take you out on a date this Friday, just the two of us. We can go wherever you want, and talk about us some more.”

I nodded thoughtfully, “I’d like that a lot, Justin, how about we walk on the beach?” We can drop Esther off at my parents house and go from there.”

He agreed wholeheartedly, and we talked for awhile, until I realized how late it was. I offered him the couch but he respectfully declined. Left with the promise of Friday in the air, I laid Esther in her crib, wishing for Friday to come quickly.

Screenshot-334.jpgSure enough, the week flew by, and Friday came. I struggled to get ready, Esther was having a fussy day, and I was doubting my resolve to leave her with my parents. She was only six weeks-old. Maybe I shouldn’t be leaving her. I called my mom to get her opinion but she assured me that what I was going through was normal. By the time Justin showed up, I had calmed down a little and managed to make myself presentable.  We dropped Esther off, and after several minutes of snuggling, kissing and instruction-giving, we were off; Justin laughing softly. We got to the beach right as the sun was setting, causing this warm, pink haze to surround us.  Instead of walking the coastline, I plopped down on the sand and sighed contentedly. Justin did the same, and I rested my head on his shoulder, “If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?”

He kissed my forehead, “Hmm…Cassidy did a report on the temples of Thailand awhile back, and ever since then she’s been begging me to take her. I think it sounds nice and peaceful. What about you?”

Screenshot-332I thought for awhile, “I think visiting the different temples sounds nice. I’ve been to Paris, and it was beautiful, but I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii.”He nodded, “That would be fun too.”

I looked to him, “Ok, your turn.”

He laughed, “My turn for what?”

“To ask a question, silly.”

“Ohhh, okay.  Hmm… where do you see you and I in the next few years?”

“Wow, you sure like the tough ones, eh? Honestly, I don’t know, Justin. I really really like you, but I’m also scared of being hurt again. Because what if something comes up again and you decide to bail?”

Screenshot-335He looks truly hurt now, “I hated leaving you, Sabrina, not a day goes by where I regret it, but I didn’t just ‘bail’, I had to think of my daughter as well. I want a fresh start with you. In a few years, I see you and I, married, living in a beautiful house by the beach. Esther is a sassy little toddler, and Cassidy is a dramatic pre-teen. You are swollen with my child, and we can’t for our family to grow. That’s where I see us in a few years.”

I was crying by the time he finished, wanting nothing more than the life he had just described. He held me until I had calmed down, “I want that too, Justin. I really want that, but I think we need to really take it slow. For our girls’ sake as much as our own.”

He smiled, wiping the last of my tears away, “For you, my dear, anything. We can take it in slow motion if we need to.”

Screenshot-336I smiled softly before growing serious again, “Justin, there is something that I need to tell you, though.” He nodded, so I continued, “When I lost Christopher, my first baby, my world fell apart, and it was partly due to the fact that the doctors told me there was almost no possibility of me becoming pregnant again. If I did manage to get pregnant, the damage to my uterus would most likely cause it to end in a miscarriage. I never told you before because I was scared that meant you wouldn’t love me.”

He wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into his lap, “Sabrina there is nothing you could say, short of , ‘I hate you.’ that would make me love you less. You know how I feel about you, and if we have to look into other options to have children, we can do that down the road.” I don’t love you any less than I did five minutes ago, okay? You are perfect just the way you are, and I can’t wait to take it slow with you.”

I sighed and relaxed into his arms, just letting myself be held. After the sun was gone, we walked back to the car, hand in hand. After picking up a sleeping Esther from my parents, Justin walked us up to my apartment. After a quick kiss goodnight, it was just me and my girl.

Screenshot-338I prepared one more bottle for her before bedtime. I snuggled her close on the couch as she ate, knowing that in the blink of an eye, she’d be all grown up. I kissed her forehead and smoothed her curls. After she was done, we played for a few minutes until she let out the biggest yawn. She smiled softly at me as I laid her in her crib, and I grinned right back at her, “Goodnight, little sweet-pea. I love you.” Emotionally exhausted, I climbed into bed, a smile on my face as I fell asleep.

1.15 Unexpected Arrival

Screenshot-300“Okay, let’s hang the balloons up there, Ethan,” I ordered before turning to my mom, “and the cake can go in the kitchen for now.” We spent the morning preparing for the baby shower, since Julia was due in three weeks. I smoothed my skirt and pulled Julia into the nursery, “Hey, are you doing alright? You’ve been pretty quiet today.”

She rubbed her back, “Yeah, the baby’s sitting weird, I’m just a little sore. I’ll be okay.”

I nodded, “Okay, but feel free to put your feet up on the bed if you need to.” She started to walk away until I held her hand. I smiled, and tried not to get teary as I put my hand on her belly, “I just want to say thank you for this precious gift. I promise to take great care of it. However, after the baby is born, if you change your mind about raising it, I will do nothing but support you, alright?” She held my hand, before nodding tearily. I led her to the bed and helped her put her feet up.

Screenshot-309I went back to decorating for a little bit until Julia started whimpering in her sleep. I rushed over to her, careful not to wake her and felt her stomach….it was hard as a rock. I kept my hand steady on the curve of her belly until the tension relaxed. I kept my hand steady on her stomach while I grabbed my phone. I changed it to the timer and started the timer until her stomach grew hard again. Once again, she began whimpering, so I gently shook her shoulder. Julia cried out in pain, and I put an arm on her shoulders, “Jules, listen, I think you’ve gone into labor, so we’re going to take you to the hospital okay?”

We loaded up the careful, and I could only thank Julia for her timing. My dad stayed back to let the guests know what was happening as they arrive. My mother navigated while Ethan drove us, and I was in the backseat with Julia, coaching her through the next contraction. By the time we got to the hospital, Julia had gone through three contractions. Once we were all settled in the room, Julia spoke up, “Thank you guys for coming,m but I really just want Sabrina in here. Ethan can you call my mom and let her know where we are?” Ethan nodded before walking out, and my mom placed my hand on my shoulder, before heading out the same door.

Screenshot-312For three hours, Julia labored on her own, we walked the halls, and used the birthing ball until it grew bad enough to warrant an epidural. She sits on the bed and I hold her hand while they do the injection. She fell asleep shortly after that, since it was now almost midnight. I follow suit, but I don’t sleep long because pretty soon, Julia felt the urge to push. I stood next to her, holding her hand as she squeezed mine tighter and tighter. I kissed her forehead, “Hon, you are so brave. You’re doing great. We’re almost there.”

Screenshot-313She cried out as another contraction came, but her voice was frantic, “Doctor, something’s not right! I can feel it, please help my baby.” He ordered the nurses to monitor the baby, before strapping her down, “Tell them to get the OR ready, we’re coming in.” They all began to rush her out the door, and I felt invisible as I tried to get someone to tell me what was happening, “That’s my baby in there, what’s going on?” Luckily, a nurse heard, “The baby’s heart rate is erratic, we need to get her out of there as fast as possible.” Before I could ask any more questions, I was ushered into the hallway,. I chased after the team rolling Julia down the hall, “I’ll be right out here for you, Jules. Be brave, honey.”

Screenshot-314I leaned against the wall and burst into sobs. As I was crying, I strained my ears for the sound of my baby’s cry, but none came. The agony was killing me, and I slumped to the floor from exhaustion until I heard a familiar comforting voice, “Sabrina? What are you doing here?” I looked up and was so glad to see Justin that I forgot where I was for a minute. I stood up and smiled at him, but the minute he wrapped his arms around me, I broke down into intense sobs. He held me tight, “Hey, hey… what’s wrong? C’mere,” he led me to a group of chairs down the hall. I wiped my tears as I sat down and faced him, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to literally cry on your shoulder.” He laughed softly, “It’s okay, Sabs. What’s going on?” I tried not to tear up as I explained about Julia and the baby before asking him, “What are you doing in the Maternity Ward?He laughed, “My sister just had a baby boy, so I came to visit with her.” Before I could say anything, the doctor came out of the operating room, “Miss Quinn?” I stood up, “Yes?” He smiled kindly, “Would you like to come and meet your daughter?” I looked back at Justin, “I’ll call you later, okay?” He smiled wide, “I’d really like that, Sabrina Quinn.”

Screenshot-316The doctor led me through the doors, and into a private room. Julia lay asleep in the bed and a small bassinet next to her. My eyes filled over as I stood next to her. I held her tiny hand, before I was brave enough to pick her. Gingerly, I sat down on the chair next to the bed. I whispered, “You sure gave Mommy a scare, didn’t you sweet-pea?” I began to hum a lullabye until we were both sleepy. Fearing I would drop her, I laid her back in the bassinet. I leaned back in the chair, my finger grasped firmly in her hand and mumbled as I dozed off, “I love you, Esther Pearl Quinn…..”

1.14 The Master Plan

Gen1 Cover~A.N~ I realize I made a really silly mistake. I named Ethan’s girlfriend Quinn, and I completely spaced on the fact this was the Quinn legacy. Big Whoops.. So from here on out I have changed Quinn’s name in the story to Julia So I hope it’s not too confusing… My apologies XD

~Sabrina’s P.O.V.~

After meeting with Julia, I did as I had promised, I spent the weekend trying to think through their situation and see if I could come up with a solution. Sunday night came, and I pulled Ethan aside, “Bud, it’s time to talk to Mom and Dad. I have a plan, but we need to talk it out as family. Why don’t you call Julia and see if she can come over for dinner. We cam talk over dinner.”

He shrugged, “I don’t know, Sabs. Do we have to tell them?”

If I was a violent person, I would’ve smacked him upside the head, “Of course they need to know!” I dropped my voice to a whisper, “This is your baby, their grandchild. You need to tell them what happened.” Ethan nodded slowly before walking away, pulling out his cell phone. I headed back into my room, to begin preparing for tonight.

Screenshot-289Before I was ready, evening came and Julia knocked on the door. As my father got up to answer the door, Ethan jumped up, “That’s my friend, Julia, from school. She’s going to have dinner with us tonight, but before you answer that door, you need to know, she’s 8 months pregnant. So please, please, just be cool.”  My dad nodded, a serious look overcoming his face, and motioned for Ethan to answer the door. Ethan opened the door, “Hey Julia, thanks for coming.” He led her inside and she turned to our parents,”Thank you for having me over, especially so last minute, I appreciate it.”

I stepped in and gave her a hug, “No, thank you for coming over,” I turned and motioned to everyone, “Why don’t we all take a seat in the living room.” My parents nodded, but you could tell the wheels were spinning in their heads. They glanced from each other to Julia’s prominent stomach. We all sat down and I put my hand on Ethan’s shoulder, “Mom, Dad, Ethan has something to tell you guys.”

Screenshot-290.jpgEthan nodded slowly, taking Julia by the hand,”Uh, I’m sure you can guess what I’m about to tell you…. Julia isn’t just my friend from school. We dated at the beginning of the school year. She moved away, and a few weeks ago she moved back to town. That’s when I found out she was pregnant…with my baby.”

My mom began to cry, and my Dad stood up and began to pace. I sat up and tried to be a voice of  reason but Julia stood up, “Look, this is all my fault. Ethan is just trying to help.”

Once my mom quieted down, she moved over next to Julia, “Honey, we are in shock, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to help. Ethan will take care of you and this baby.”

I leaned next to my mom, “Julia has asked me to help her find a solution to their situation, because she doesn’t feel like she’s ready to raise this baby. I have thought of many options, and if Ethan’s agreeable. I would like to adopt their baby.”

Screenshot-292Ethan looked thoughtfully at Julia before turning back to me, “If that’s what Julia wants, I’m happy to oblige. Obviously, I’d still like to be a part of this baby’s life, but maybe more as Uncle Ethan, than Daddy.” Julia threw her arms around him, sobbing her thanks onto his shoulder. My dad stopped pacing long enough to face me, “Are you ready to raise this baby, Sabrina? You’ve just gotten on with your life after the Raj debacle. You have a part-time job, and you still live at home.”

I took a deep breath, trying not to get defensive. My dad meant well, and he was still in shock. I sat a little more forward on the couch, “You’re right, I might not be ready now for this baby, but I have an entire month to get ready. My job is minimum wage, but I searched all over Simslist this weekend and I found a couple jobs that seemed decent. Because I live at home, I’ve had the chance to save everything I earned as a receptionist for the last two years. In my bank account, I have nearly $10,000 saved up. I’ll be going apartment hunting this week. I want to help, Dad and I know you’re concerned, but I’m doing this with or without your support.”

As I grew silent, my mother stood up, “We’ll support you, Sabrina. What you’re doing is a very thoughtful and a generous gift. Julia, are you okay with Sabrina’s plan?”

Screenshot-293Julia turned towards me, tears streaming down her cheek, “Yes. I can’t imagine a kinder person to raise this baby. I’m sure my mom will be agreeable to this if she’s allowed to have contact with the baby; but even if she’s not okay with this plan, this is what I want to do.”

We hugged, and the rest of the evening was a little awkward but it went on without any issues. The next morning, I set out on an apartment hunt, barely containing my excitement. I nearly floated from place to place, not even bothered by the fact that I was walking around town in the dead of summer.

Screenshot-308.jpgAfter a week of apartment hunting and job interviews, luck had turned my way. I managed to score a sweet summer deal on a new apartment across town. It would be a 20 minute drive to my parents, but I was so ecstatic with this place I didn’t even care. The minute I paid for and signed the year-long lease, I began to cry and my new landlord just stared at me like I was crazy. He didn’t understand! This was the first time in my life that I was actually independent. I didn’t have to ask someone for money to buy clothes, no more using my parents’ money to go grocery shopping. This was it, I was a grown up!

Filled with newfound sense of independence, I spent that week moving in, and when it was all finished, I had everyone over for the big reveal, Julia included. My mom had tears in her eyes as she hugged me, “Hon, I am so proud of you. There is not a minute that goes by that I don’t regret not being able to celebrate life’s milestones with you, but today, I’m glad to be standing here with you. You’re going to be a wonderful mother,” she kissed my forehead, but we were both bawling at this point,”I’m only a phone call away if you need anything, okay Sabrina?” I nodded through my tears and we joined the everyone in the small living area. After everyone left that evening, I looked around at my little apartment. It wasn’t much, but it was mine, and I couldn’t have been happier. I fell fast asleep that night, fully embracing my newfound independence.

1.13 Family Matters

Gen1 Cover~Sabrina’s P.O.V.~

Screenshot-281.jpgI take a long sip of my coffee as I gaze over the ocean. Every day, I’m flabbergasted by the view from our deck. I wait by the phone for the weekly call from Raj. Ever since the incident last month, we checked in with each other weekly. My phone rang, not 5 minutes later, Raj’s voice filling my ears, “Morning, pal” We talked about the random things in our life, until we were getting ready to end the call. His voice grew serious,

“Sabrina, this’ll probably be our last call for awhile. I’m getting ready to move.”

“W-wow…congratulations?”

He laughed, “Don’t worry about me, I’m getting a fresh start with a cousin in Bridgeport. I’ll keep in touch, but you need to be able to move on and start your life. I appreciate every thing you have done for me, more than you can know, but I’m holding you back. You’re a great woman Sabrina, and I will always love you.” He hung up the phone shortly thereafter, leaving me in a peaceful silence. Instead of feeling sad, or hurt like I expected, I felt…….relieved. I could finally get on with my life.

Two Months Later

~Ethan’s P.O.V.~

Screenshot-288I stumbled into the house, accidentally slamming the door behind me. I threw my backpack on the ground, finally noticing my sister in the corner. She stood there watching me curiously, “What’s wrong, bud?” I shrugged, before turning and heading into the kitchen. She didn’t let me get very far. She practically dragged me into her room and pushed me into the chair, “Seriously, Ethan, what’s wrong. You haven’t been yourself lately and now you’re skipping school?”

My head hung low, I surprised myself by breaking into huge gasping sobs. When I could finally speak, I raised my head and met her eyes, “Back at the beginning of the school year, I met this really awesome girl, Quinn. We were together for a little while, but she moved back in with her Dad in Twinbrook over the winter break.” Sabrina cocked her head at me, but I wasn’t finished, “Well a week ago, she moved back in with her mom, because…she’s pregnant. Like really pregnant, Sabs.”

Sabrina opened and closed her mouth, kinda like a fish, before saying, “Wow. Ethan, do you know for sure that it’s your baby?”

I nodded, my face heating up,”It’s mine.”

“Dude, you’re seventeen, how are you going to raise a baby? I’m not saying you can’t, I’m just asking if you’ve thought this through.”

I shrugged, “Well, I’ve been saving up some money,  but it’s not much.”

“So I take you haven’t told Mom and Dad.”

“Nope.”

She sighed, “Okay, well I’ll help you figure out a plan, and maybe talk to Quinn. Then we can tell Mom and Dad together, alright?”

I ran over and gave her a hug, feeling like a lost little kid. I whispered, “Thank you. I’m so glad you’re my sister.”

~Sabrina’s P.O.V.~

3 days after talking with my brother, I made plans to meet with Quinn at the local cafe in town. Ethan had plans to meet up with us later, but I thought it best to start off with just the two of us girls. A little bit early, I grabbed a coffee and waited, my mind racing. I ran through every possible scenario, trying not to form any opinions before I met this girl. I took a deep breath, trying to not come across as judgmental. The bell chimed as the cafe door opened to show a young girl, very pregnant. I stood up and stretched out my hand, “You must be Quinn. I’m Sabrina” Quinn stiffly took my hand, being very careful to keep her guard up, “Yes, I’m Quinn. It’s nice to meet you.”

Screenshot-283I led us to a private corner of the cafe and we made small talk while waiting for our order to arrive. I folded my hands across my lap, before just barreling through the small talk, “Look, there’s no way to avoid the awkwardness here, so I’m just going to come right out and ask you a very blunt question if that’s alright with you,” she nodded, so I pushed on, “How far along are you?”

Her face softened a little, “I’m 36 weeks along, and I’m due in a month.”

I nodded thoughtfully, already regretting the fact that I had to ask this question, “And you’re absolutely sure this baby is Ethan’s? I’m sorry to have to ask this, but I only ask because he’s my baby brother.”

Screenshot-284Instead of growing defensive, or angry, Quinn dropped her head into her hands, “He’s the only guy I’ve ever been with, ma’am.”

I had to stop myself from laughing, “You don’t have to call me ma’am. I want to help you, I just had to make sure your intentions were good.”

Soon after, we were called to our table where our lunch was waiting. A pause filled the air as we both ate. When we were through with our meal, I began to slowly ask her some more questions, “So, do you know whether the baby is a boy or a girl?”

Quinn shook her head, “No, uh… I wanted an abortion, but my mother wouldn’t sign the consent papers.”

I nodded, “So are you having the baby adopted?”

She began to cry, “I want to, but my mother threatened to throw me out if that happens. She wants me to raise this baby.”

Screenshot-287.jpgQuinn stood up angrily, leaning against the table “I can barely take care of myself, and my mother is always working. I don’t even get to see her on the weekends, she travels to Bridgeport to stay with her boyfriend. How am I supposed to raise a baby?”

I wished that I knew her well enough to hug her, but instead I put my arm on her shoulder, “And you didn’t want to stay with your dad?”

She broke down into sobs, so I led her back to the private area where we had first met,. When she had gained her composure she whispered, “He found the pregnancy test I took before I had the chance to tell him. He let me stay with him until the end of the school year, and then he kicked me out, so here I am. “

Screenshot-286

I grabbed her hand, “I don’t know how I can help you, Quinn, but that doesn’t mean I won’t. I’ll give you and Ethan some time to catch up, and I’ll spend the weekend brainstorming. Together, we can work out a plan of action, okay?”
